International Peace Worker in Myanmar – September 2018

“Strengthening local capacities for nonviolent conflict transformation and political participation”

we are looking for a

Civil Peace Worker in Yangon / Myanmar

Field of work:

As an international peace worker you will support up to two organisations active in the social movements in Myanmar, in strategic development and the development and implementation of trainings and capacity building measures for activists.

1. Support the partner organisations in  processes of institutional development and strategy development in accordance with identified needs
2. Plan and implement the CPS project together with local peace workers
3. Support the development of curricula and targeted training interventions on civil conflict transformation, nonviolent action and campaigning as well as the planning and implementation of training measures
4. Support the partner’s strategic use of social media and digital security
5. In accordance with needs provide support in planning networking and advocacy activities with government and civil society actors as well as peace education organisations
6. Conduct or take part in a study on needs of nonviolent action movements in Myanmar, as well as potential partners
7. Contribute in ongoing conflict and security analyses in relation to the CPS project
8. Ascertain accurate financial transactions and reporting in regular communication with the KURVE Wustrow main office
9. Work in close cooperation with the regional coordinator and other international peace workers /CPS projects in Myanmar
10. Support the planning of networking and advocacy activities in Germany

Requirements:

1. University or a similar degree in peace and conflict studies, international relations, or another relevant field
2. Sound knowledge and experience in the field of peacebuilding and civil conflict transformation
3. Experience in developing and implementing training programs
4. Experience in working with nonviolent (youth) movements and peace activists and ability to adapt to their mode of operation while setting a work structure and priorities in a highly dynamic work environment
5. Experience in the support of organisational development processes as well as the ability to initiate processes
6. Knowledge and experience of campaigning and advocacy, as well as networking
7. Relevant experience in and knowledge of project management and strategic development, incl. M&E of peace, development and/or humanitarian projects in conflict contexts
8. Knowledge of the context and work experience in Myanmar would be an asset
9. Willingness to travel to remote (conflict) areas
10. Coordination and organisational skills
11. Intercultural competence and the ability to work independently as well as in a dynamic local team
12. Knowledge about the challenges regarding the security situation of peace activists in the specific political context, and the ability to constantly assess and reflect on own actions from a security perspective
13. Ability to reflect about one’s own role regarding the specific institutional context and the willingness to learn
14. A high degree of flexibility and openness towards the dynamic daily work environment of social movements in Myanmar
15. Good IT skills
16. Professional command of English and the willingness to learn Burmese
17. German language skills would be an asset
18. EU citizenship

Contractual Conditions:

We offer a contract according to the German law for development aid workers (only for EU-citizens, incl. EEA plus Switzerland) until 31 December 2020. The contract including a preparation period in Germany would commence presumably on January 15^th, 2019.
