Civil Peace Worker in Kyiv/Ukraine
together with our partner organisation
Coalition Justice for Peace in Donbas
Field of work:
As an integrated International Peace Worker you will support a nationwide network
of nongovernmental organisations with the documentation and accounting of human
rights violations in the context of the occupation and armed conflict in Donbas. You will
be integrated into the team of the Eastern-Ukraninian Center for Civic Initiatives (EUCCI), one of the members of the Coalition Justice for Peace in Donbas.
- Planning, implementing and monitoring the CPS project together with a local peace worker, other project participants and partners
- Developing concepts and projects for dealing with the recent past, particularly regarding conflict-sensitive remembrance culture and public presentations of human rights violations in Donbas
- Networking and public relations activities regarding state, civil society actors and survivors in the range of human rights violations
- Interviewing survivors and analysing cases of human rights violations, collected in the Coalition’s database
- Helping in creating innovative media products (for instance reports, documentaries or comics based on cases of human rights violations), organizing exhibitions, developing concepts for places of inclusive public commemoration, societal encounter and debate
- Development and improvement of the existing database for the collection of human rights violations and the conflict-sensitive use of the large data collection for public relations
- Supporting the partner organisation in processes of institutional strengthening in accordance with identified needs
- Ascertaining accurate financial transactions and reporting in regular communication with the KURVE Wustrow main office
- Close cooperation with the regional coordinator on ongoing conflict and security analysis
- Supporting the networking and public relation activities of KURVE Wustrow in Germany if applicable
Requirements:
- University or a similar degree in peace and conflict studies, political and social sciences, regional studies, international social work or another relevant field
- Relevant qualification in the field of civil nonviolent conflict transformation
- Sound knowledge and experience in the field of civil, nonviolent conflict transformation as well as experience with nonviolent social movements
- Several years of practical work experience with NGOs, in intercultural teams and/or abroad
- Experience in handling databases (g. Memex Patriarch) or electronic archives for further developing of existing structures and interfaces would be an asset
- Experience in handling digital and social media and websites
- Experience in the conceptualization of places of public commemoration (“urban planning”) or memory work would be an asset
- Knowledge of and experience in (post) war societies
- Willingness to travel to Ukrainian controlled territories in Donbas
- Intercultural competence and the ability to work independently as well as in a dynamic local team
- Ability to reflect about one’s own role regarding the specific institutional context and the willingness to learn
- Knowledge of the context and work experience in Ukraine would be an asset
- Professional command of English and knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian
(or the willingness to learn Ukrainian/Russian) - German language skills would be an asset
Contractual Conditions:
We offer a contract according to the German law for development aid workers (only for EU-citizens, incl. EEA plus Switzerland) until December 31st 2023. The contract including a preparation period in Germany would commence on 01 February 1st, 2020.
